HIV/AIDS - Healthy Living Seminars

In conjunction with a local NGO, Knock developed the curriculum for these seminars in 2008. Since then, we have conducted one to two seminars per year in different villages in the rural Moshi area in Tanzania. Each seminar has had attendance of between 150 to 250 people, ranging from young children to adults. The seminars are taught by young Tanzanians in their late teens and early 20s who are experienced and expert in what they do. Topics addressed include self-esteem, planning goals, good relationships, drugs and alcohol, HIV/AIDS and the immune system, HIV/AIDS transmission, family planning, responsible parenting and abuse. These seminars have garnered much interest and positive feedback.

Knock's goal is to continue offering such seminars each year in different areas of rural Moshi. In partnership with the local facilitators, we plan to develop a school seminar curriculum that would allow Knock to conduct the seminars in schools throughout the year, greatly expanding our reach. The seminars cost in the range of $3.00-6.00 per person.
