Matumaini Children's Center
Knock fully supports the operating budget for the Matumaini Child Care Center in Tanzania. Matumaini, meaning 'Hope' in Swahili, is located in Rau Village, outside the town of Moshi at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. Forty children, predominantly AIDS orphans, live at the Center and range in age from six to sixteen years. In January 2011, the kids and staff excitedly moved into the new center Knock built for them, moving from a small, three-roomed house to an expansive site complete with two classrooms, a large dining hall with a kitchen and store, and two dormitories. The kids are provided with health care, clean mattresses and mosquito nets, well-balanced meals, a safe and clean environment, and school uniforms and supplies; additionally, their school fees are paid. Matumaini has also established income-generating projects for the children to foster capacity building and drive incremental revenue for the Center.

Knock’s and Matumaini’s goal for 2011 is to increase the number of children at the center to reach full capacity of 48 children. We will also begin developing outreach programs for the surrounding community, utilizing the site as a community center as well as a center for the children.
