Matumaini Child Care Center
Matumaini, meaning 'Hope' in Swahili, is located in Rau Village, outside the town of Moshi at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. About 35 children, predominantly AIDS orphans, live at the Center and range in age from seven to seventeen years. Knock Foundation has helped to support Matumaini since 2007. In January 2011, the kids and staff excitedly moved into the brand new center Knock funded and constructed, moving from a small, three-roomed, rented house to an expansive site complete with two classrooms, a large dining hall with a kitchen and store, and two dormitories. Knock’s partnership agreement with Matumaini expired in late 2012, but we continue to assist with many of the children’s educational needs and will continue to do so moving forward.
Knock’s goal for 2013 is to continue raising funds to assist with providing educational scholarships for the children at Matumaini.
